The 'Domain' of Data Mesh

The data mesh concept introduces a number of data management concepts that may seem bold and  foreign to traditional approaches. The concept of 'domain' is not new or radical in any way. Furthermore, organizing data by domains is not something that requires one to embrace a data mesh to see the value in it. Whether you are embracing a data mesh strategy or not, utilizing a categorization by domain is advisable and achievable. Following is a diagram that demonstrates the data mesh concept.

The easiest way to understand the value of "domain" is what it is not: "enterprise". For too long, we have been inundated on how we must strive for an enterprise view of data. While the intent is pure, the reality is that one view of data of any degree of complexity is a fool's errand.
